A tradition stemming from Ecuador and Mexico, but practiced in many countries, Closing the Bones is a postpartum closing ceremony to assist in a woman’s recovery after childbirth. It provides a safe and supportive space where healing can take place physically, mentally, and spiritually and a moment in time where our experiences can be reflected upon and honoured. A woman’s hips open during pregnancy and birth, but we will have also opened ourselves to a life-changing experience. In some cases, we will have opened ourselves to trauma. The closing of the bones ceremony assists in the physical closing of the hips back to their standard width, and, as our hips are often where we hold unresolved emotions and trauma, it assists in releasing emotions associated with birth and motherhood.
The first forty days after a child is born is a time like no other- a special period of almost six weeks, the fourth trimester, where after months of pregnancy, sickness, aching hips, and the endurance of labor and birth, your body works to miraculously recover.

A birth doula is a dedicated companion accompanying a woman in labor, aiming to ensure a safe and satisfying birth experience. Your doula leverages professional training and knowledge to provide emotional, physical, and mental support and communication. This support empowers you to make informed decisions during labor. Additionally, your doula offers reassurance and perspective, makes suggestions for labor progress, and assists with relaxation, massage, positioning, and comfort services. Importantly, doulas work for you rather than your healthcare provider or hospital.

The first meeting lets us get to know each other and determine whether we are a good fit. Your comfort with your doula and her role in your birth is essential. If you decide we aren't the right fit, we encourage you to communicate this, and we'll gladly provide referrals to other resources. If you choose our doulas at the Institute of Integrative Health Specialists and Holistic Wellness Center, LLC, please sign and return this contract via email. A 50% retainer fee is required to secure your due date on the calendar.

We will maintain contact via phone, email, or in-person meetings. We must meet multiple times before labor to discuss your priorities and plan how we can best support you. During these meetings, we will review your labor and birth preferences and the roles of your partner and doula. The more we explore this in advance, the better prepared we will be to fulfill our part in supporting you.

Our doulas at the Institute of Integrative Health Specialists and Holistic Wellness Center, LLC, are available for calls, texts, or emails from the date of the signed contract. We are available daily from 9 AM to 7 PM. We encourage you (and your partner) to contact us with questions, concerns, or updates. Due to our commitments with other clients, we will respond within 12-24 hours. It's vital to keep us informed about your appointments with your OBGYN and midwife, as we are part of your birthing team. We must maintain open and consistent communication. Between 38-42 weeks, we will be readily available for all forms of communication as your labor approaches.

When you believe you are in labor, please call your doula even if you don't require immediate assistance. Your doula can offer guidance and suggestions over the phone. Early work can last 8-12 hours, so it's best to rest during this phase to conserve energy for active labor and pushing. Once you confirm that you are at work, we will stay in constant communication, and you can inform us when you would like us to join you. Once the decision is made, we will aim to arrive within 1-2 hours. When you are in active labor, your doula will meet you at your chosen location, be it your home, birthing center, or hospital. While most mothers have one doula, in rare cases, we may have a backup doula in case of simultaneous births.

If medical labor induction is required, we will collaborate with you to decide when you'd like our assistance. We will join you within 1-2 hours once you are in active labor. Our doula will remain with you throughout active labor and birth, barring extraordinary circumstances. We can discuss the induction options outlined by your healthcare provider to ensure you are fully informed.

Depending on your selected package, your doula will remain with you for 1-2 hours until you are comfortable and your family is ready for quiet time together. If you have chosen a package with extended postpartum care, your doula will return within one to two weeks. We will review your birth experience, gather feedback about your doula experience, and provide additional postpartum resources for your family's needs.

For out-of-state clients, your doula will be available within the same week as your scheduled due date. Our doula's stay duration is based on the chosen package but will not exceed 2.5 weeks postpartum, with a total allocated time frame of 3 weeks for birth and postpartum. Any variations due to birthing delays will be discussed with you and your partner for necessary arrangements with your doula.

We request permission to post photos/comments on social media and websites, ensuring they are modest and respectful of your birth experience. We will only post with your consent, using images provided by you or screened by you. Please inform us if you prefer to keep photos/comments private.

Our doulas at the Institute of Integrative Health Specialists and Holistic Wellness Center, LLC, work with your healthcare providers (midwife, obstetrician, nurse, and pediatrician). We are not a substitute for their care or expertise. Our services are strictly NON-MEDICAL. While we assist you in making informed decisions, you bear full responsibility for your health and medical services. Our doula's role is to offer emotional support and to call 911 in the event of a medical emergency concerning your baby or family. We do not perform clinical assessments, and you are responsible for any incurred injuries or damages before arriving at your planned birthplace.

If you wish to change packages or services, the retainer fee is non-refundable, and a new contract will be issued at current rates. You will pay the difference in the 50% retainer fee upon hiring for upgrades. In the case of downgrades, the 50% retainer fee is retained, and a new contract addendum will be issued for the current rates. Changes to the package structure are no longer allowed after 23 weeks.

If induction or cesarean surgery is necessary, we will offer continuous emotional and physical support to you, your partner, and your baby before, during, and after the procedure. If your chosen birthing place does not allow doulas in certain areas, we will remain until you are settled after the surgery, and this does not constitute a refund. Failure to contact us promptly or to request our presence during procedures may result in non-refundable fees. We aim to maintain contact, but you must keep us updated. If your doula(s) is available but not present at the delivery due to your choice, fees remain non-refundable. In the event of disasters, strikes, government regulations, civil disorder, Acts of God, or emergencies that render travel unviable, illegal, or impossible, fees are non-refundable once your doula is en route to your birth.

We offer convenient payment plans through Afterpay.
After the initial 50% retainer fee, you have the option for monthly payments due on the same date as the retainer fee. For example, if your retainer fee payment was made on June 25, 2021, your next payment would be due July 25, 2021.
For out-of-state travel, a 35% travel charge will be included in the service package. The remaining balance is due within 35 weeks. After this timeframe, birth support will only be provided with full payment.Item description
